2013 Workbook
My 2013 Incredible Year Planner!
Wow-  It's already 2013!  Time just seems to be speeding up for me every year.  Here we are on the cusp of another awesome year!  As we turn the page on each year to the new blank chapter to be written, I feel the need for reflection and planning, just like most people.  My birthday is New Year's Eve, so this is truly the new year beginning for me.

Over the last three years, my most essential planning tool has become Leonie Dawson's Incredible Year Planner (formerly known as the Creating My Goddess Year Planner) (Yes, that's an affiliate link.  I adore this product and would love for you to have your own.)  It's beautifully colorful and inspiring, while being extremely useful and functional at the same time.

One of the key pieces is that it takes you through a review of your past year, so that you see how far you've come, how much you've grown and learned.  And then it builds your new year goals, dreams, plans.  It's far too much to work through in just a few hours (and planning your year is important, so that's ok) so I spread it out over a week or two.  I start with the releasing of 2012 and let that experience have the honor and gratitude it deserves.  Then, I spend an afternoon thumbing through 2013 and answering the parts that come easily, while I chew on the tougher parts.  I let it simmer for a while and come back the next day.

100 Things to Do in 2013!!!
Today is my third day.  I'm filling in my 100 Things to Do list.  Because it's so long, it really makes you S-T-R-E-T-C-H into things you want to do but would never write down otherwise.  And writing them down really helps you make it happen.  Last year, one of the first things on my list was to learn Reiki.  A good friend of mine sent out an invitation that week to her Reiki training in early February.  I was able to mark that one right off and I might have missed it.

I usually get about 40 on the list and then I have to come back a bit later to add more.  I keep it running for most of January, whenever I think of new things.  Leonie also encourages you to break your goals down into action items so that they can go from dreams to done.  (You'll never be the next J.K. Rowling if you don't write a single page.)

This is a wonderful process for starting your year on the right foot.  The key is not to get overwhelmed or feel like you should have had it all done by 12-31.  I got my 2012 done before New Year's this year, but last year it was after.  I figure I've got the whole year ahead and the key is planning something.  Just like your GPS needs you to give it an address of where you're headed, you're more likely to reach your dreams if you head in their direction.  I still haven't picked my word for the year- that's something I'm still feeling out.  Because of the baby, I know my whole world will change in May and I don't want to overpressure myself.  So, I'm trying to find something that feels like a gentle stretch forward instead of a big leap.

What do you do for beginning a new year?  Do you pick a word or phrase?

Mornings- not for everyone

I am not a morning person.  At all.  I thrive & create best in the 7pm-2am time slot.  However, the society we live in is not built to accommodate me.  So I struggle through every morning and get up, drag myself into some clothes and make my way into the world of my day job.  It doesn’t help that I stay up pretty late, since that’s my wide open time.  Luckily, I generally realize after about 10-15 minutes of wakefulness that I’m glad to be awake and alive and move through my day in a better mood.  (Just don’t wake me before I have to be up.)

This morning after my alarm went off, I was grumbling to myself, as usual.  “I should have gone to bed earlier- Why do I have to get up- I hate mornings- blahblahblah”.  The phrase “Rule the world” just popped into my head.  My snarky inner not-a-morning-person snapped “I don’t have to get up- I don't rule the world”.  And then, this wise inner voice said, “Well, you certainly can’t rule the world from bed, so getting up is a good start.”

I was surprised at this sudden nugget of wisdom from myself, especially so early in the morning.  And then I realized how useful that message is.  So many of us, myself included, have grand dreams of all the things we want to do and the worlds we want to 'rule'.  But our fears and self-imposed limitations keep us in our metaphorical beds.  We don’t rule the world because we don’t get up and start trying.   We stay in our comfort zone, with our heads under the covers, and avoid all the magic and delights that await us once we’re up.

We all have a grand purpose here, that’s the very reason we’re alive.  We are ALL somebody important, each and every one of us.  But we’ve been told that’s selfish and arrogant and inflated thinking.  So we stay in bed instead, to avoid the pressure and the guilt of not living up to those big dreams.  Or because we get a glimmer of how big our dreams really are and that scares the shit out of us.

Don’t fear your bigness- Embrace it.

Wake up!  Get out of your comfy bed and Carpe Diem already!

The world needs whatever special brand of magic you're full of, so start sharing it.

Is your internal alarm clock trying to wake you up so you can rule your life?  What if you get up today and see what’s in store?  As for me, I’m off to see my wizard for more wisdom (that’d be Inner Me, in case you’re wondering)!

If you are ready to rule your world, please check out my Work page for more info on how we could work together.  Or go here to set up a free Fairy Godmother Session to dig into your dreams and see what magic we can find.

believe

As I was watching the American Idol finale last night, I kept thinking about how amazed those kids must be to find themselves smack dab in the middle of their dreams coming true.   A national tour, singing on stage with their heroes, millions of screaming fans, etc.  I don't mean the finalists, either.  All of the top 12 are going to go on to some form of success in the music business because of the exposure and connections they've gained.

But mostly, because the judges chose to believe in them and their talent.  They all came into the auditions with a dream and incredible talent and hope.  So did thousands of others who didn't make it to the live shows.  Some of them may even be more talented or motivated than the finalists, but they weren't chosen.  For whatever their numerous reasons, the judges put their belief in those 12, and so their dreams are coming true every day.

I'm not saying that the belief was the only reason they're succeeding.  They had to have the talent first.  But when someone truly believes in you and shows you that they do, it gives your talent wings.  It helps you to soar higher and faster.  It moves you forward with strength that you didn't know you had until someone gave you that helping hand.

I see it every day in coaching.  As soon as someone says their dreams out loud and we begin to focus on them, they grow and leap in ways that weren't imagined.  I see it in my women's circles- when we share those deep secret talents that we long to share and someone tells us how amazing it is.  That little bit of belief is just like Pixie Dust- with it and a good dose of happy thoughts we start to fly.

The wonderful Amy Palko has started a Beautiful Beliefs series and I'm thrilled to participate!  To play along or read the other posts, check out this link.  If you're ready for a bit of Pixie Dust and want to learn more about me and my work, check out this post or go here to set up your free Fairy Godmother Session.

For a while now, I’ve been feeling pulled towards cutting gluten and sugar out of my diet.  I have a raging, uncontrollable Sweet Tooth Monster that must be tamed and it is not pretty.  I just don’t feel healthy lately.  My allergies are back, my weight is rising, my energy has plummeted, and overall I just know that I’m not respecting this beautiful body that I have.   We're also ready for the baby-making part of this journey and I want to be as healthy as I can be for my mini-me incubation.

The research I’ve done says that it’s worth it to try this sugar/gluten free path, even though I know it’s a difficult one because it’s outside of the mainstream of our American diet.  I don’t even taste most of the food I eat because I just cram it down in a hurry or while I'm doing something else.  Truthfully, that pizza and cake I’m grieving over missing is something I don’t stop to enjoy when I do eat it, so this gluten free thing won't bee so bad.

Well, I’ve done something radical (for me).  I started my new eating plan on a Wednesday.  I just decided enough was enough and I was ready to start.  I normally wait for Sunday or Monday, but this time I decided I couldn't just put off my new life.  I had to go.  And if you're also a wait for Monday kind of girl, I really encourage you to just start right now.  Not "tomorrow" or "next week" or "when the time is right".  Right now, in whatever way you can.

Maybe that means you write a paragraph of your book, even though you don't know exactly where the story is going.

Maybe you'll spend 5 minutes researching trainings online for that skill you need, even though you don't know how you'll pay for it.

Maybe you'll choose to have a piece of fruit instead of a candy bar, even though you don't have healthier meals all planned out.

Maybe you’ll take two minutes for a breathing meditation, instead of waiting for a half hour of ‘free time’ that will never show up.

Maybe you'll dance while you cook dinner, because your favorite song is on and it just feels good to boogie, even though you aren't wearing work out clothes or proper shoes or- or- or ....

Whatever it is, take that baby step (or giant leap if you're feeling it) and your goal will be that much closer.  The miracle is that you will feel so amazingly productive from starting RIGHT AWAY that you’ll get the motivation to do more and go further.

When I decided to start on Wednesday, it was Tuesday night.  I actually started right then, because for dinner I had a Spinach & Blueberry smoothie that was jam-packed with nutrients and freshness.  And Wednesday morning, when my friend brought in cinnamon rolls, I didn’t waiver.  I could have said “Well, I haven’t really started, so I can have one and start tomorrow.”  But I didn’t.  I had a fruit snack and really enjoyed it.  I savored the tartness of the grapes and the sweetness of the strawberries.

Most of all, I savored the beauty of choosing my own radiant health over the temporary sweetness of a pastry laden with sugar and artificial ingredients.  Choose your own beautiful dream right now.  In this moment, because this moment is the only one you’re guaranteed.

If you also have struggled with eating or with feeling unhealthy, Goddess Leonie’s Radiant Goddess E-course is starting next week as a group cycle or you can start it on your own right now.  That is an affiliate link, because I truly adore her Goddess Circle and the magics you can access there and I believe we should all join the circle.  I’m using the e-course as the basis for my own new eating plan, so let me know if you sign up and we can check in with each other for support!

If you need support in taking your giant leaps and honoring your own beauty, please check out my Work page for more info on how we could work together.  Or go here for info about a free Fairy Godmother Session to dig into your dreams and see what magics we can find.

One of the comments on my What's the Best? post resonated as a comment that so many women might have made.

RT said "Reading your blog made me smile.   It really struck deep.   I'm the kind of person to think that their "best case scenario" is the dream that will never come true and their "worst case scenario" is reality.  I'm working on believing that I can have a "best case scenario" reality."

So many of us let ourselves be paralyzed by that fear that the Best Case is just a pipe dream.  We focus so much on what we don't have and it locks us into that place of lack.  We dream of the future and it never comes.  And one of the reasons is that we don't ACT.  We say, "Oprah would never read my book", so we don't even write.  In my post, the whole scenario hinged on Gayle buying my book for Oprah.  But if I never write it, she can't possibly buy it.  Maybe she still won't, but there is ZERO chance of her extracting it from my head.

_"Once you make a decision, the universe conspires to make it happen." ~Ralph Waldo Emerson

Maybe the mere act of writing that book will reveal another dream or path to me.  Maybe I'll discover that I really don't want to publish my book, but that my goal is to share my words in another way- maybe greeting cards or T-shirts.   It may be that I'll never be on Oprah, but I'll have that same feeling of fulfillment and joy that my vision gave me.  It's just a way to feel that feeling and the details are irrelevant.  Without my action and dedication, my best case scenario will stay a mere hope in the distance instead of a bright light on my path, leading me on.

Don't forget that right now is a gift- that's why it's a present.  (Yes, it's cliche, but it's also true.)   Don't wait to to start living once your someday comes, or you're wasting all the gifts that today provides.  Start to take the steps and do the work that gets you there.  Gayle can't buy my book if it doesn't exist.  You can't shine if you're hiding in a cave waiting for tomorrow.  Your dreams are waiting for you to head in their direction.

Get up on your path and allow the Universe to shower you with all the Blessings you have in store.

If you need support in seeing your path and setting your actions, please check out my Work page for more info on how we could work together.  Or email me for a free Fairy Godmother Session to dig into your dreams and see what magics we can find.
